Ponggol
Ponggol is the most wanted breakfast because of its cheap price and large portion. Mostly, ponggol is composed of rice, fried tempe sambal (cubed cut tempe cooked with sambal and tastes very spicy), and fried noodles. However, every stall has its own variation of ponggol. Some stalls add eggs, vegetables, fried rice or corn vermicelli; even some stalls change the rice as the main carbo into sticky rice. A portion of ponggol is usually priced between Rp. 5,000,00 - Rp. 10,000,00*.

Kupat Bongkok
Kupat Bongkok is a dish from Bongkok Village, Tegal Regency; however, it has become popular in Tegal. This dish also uses lontong that is sliced into cubes, but what makes it different from kupat kampung is the soup. Kupat kampung soup contains coconut milk, while Kupat bongkok doesn’t use it, which is why the soup in Kupat bongkok looks cloudy. Then, kupat bongkok is added along with bean sprouts, ground boiled chilli peppers, cooked gembus (fermented tofu extracted by bacteria called Rhizopus spp.), noodle crackers (crackers that are made from flour and shaped like yellow noodles) that are cooked with chili paste but taste almost sweet, sweet soy bean, and crumbles from noodle crackers. A portion of kupat bongkok is usually priced between Rp. 5,000,00 – Rp. 10,000,00*.

Bubur Ayam (Chicken Porridge)
Bubur Ayam or chicken porridge is one of the favorite types of food in Tegal Regency for breakfast menu. Rice porridge is made from rice cooked in lots of water so that it has a soft and runny texture. Porridge is usually served hot or warm. Chicken porridge is served with sliced chicken meat with several spices, such as soy sauce and sweet soy sauce, pepper, salt, and sometimes with chicken stock. The porridge is topped with chopped spring onions, fried onions, celery, tongcai (salted vegetables), fried peanuts, cakwe (doughnut with long shape) and crackers.
